Transition Streets and Local Actions

Transition Streets and Local Actions

How can a street reduce consumption, waste and costs, while building community and connection at the same time?

What is a conversation cafe? It's a rare opportunity to engage, connect and explore important questions about our future. To think about what could be, not what is. To hear stories of where change is happening and build on the enthusiasm, wisdom and actions of others.

Our next session explores super local action, the kind of action that can take place in a street, a workplace or just a group of families or friends. It's the kind of approach that could be described as kitchen table action but that doesn't mean it's not powerful. In fact this sort of approach has got politicians both elected and deposed.

So what are the barriers to this sort of action, how would you get started and how can the concept of a street level transition help you feel confident that you don't need to be an expert, you just need to be willing to take the first step.

As our guide for this event we will be welcoming Mik Aidt. Mik is a journalist, communicator and host of the long running Sustainable Hour radio show and podcast. He's also been heavily involved in the Geelong Transition Street group and has a wealth of knowledge, experiences and resources to share.
